4th BOOK BAZAAR at the Benaki Museum

The Benaki Museum, after the great response of the public in the previous three years, organizes the 4th Book Bazaar with 240 titles published by the Benaki Museum, with a 50% and 70% discount on their retail price.

The bazaar will take place from Thursday, May 19 until Sunday, May 22, 2016, in the the Benaki Museum at the Pireos street, during the opening hours (Thursday, Sunday: 10:00 to 18:00, Friday, Saturday: 10:00 – 22: 00). A section with second hand books will be also included in extremely low prices, as well as selected items from the Museum Shop in special prices.

However, for the first time the Museum in order to facilitate its public, organizes an online book bazaar (bazaar.benaki.gr). During the days of the bazaar, all the publications will be available online with a discount of 50% and 70%.

The subjects of the publications mirror the features, interests and activities of the Benaki Museum and range from Classical Greece, Byzantine Culture, Folklore, Modern Greek Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, to Photography and European art.

Representative of the books to be included are: Athens 1839-1900: Α Photographic record, – Vassilis Fotopoulos – Greek Sees – I. Moralis: Angels, music, poetry – 3 Kriezotou Street. Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika. His home, Studio and Gallery – Costas Balafas: My country – Costas Balafas: Photographic Memories of Modern Greece – Nikolaos Tombazis (1894-1986) India – Greece – The world of Dionysis Fotopoulos, etc.

During the Book BAZAAR, Benaki Museum collaborates with the Non Governmental Organization PRAKSIS (Programs of Development, Social Support and Medical Cooperation, www.praksis.gr) in order to urge and motivate the visitors of the Bazaar to contribute to the Organization’s action. The aim is to provide the refugees and the vulnerable individuals (such as children) with basic items in order to cover their basic needs.

We ask for:
1. Baby Diapers (all sizes)
2. Baby & Kids clothing (0-5 years )
3. Powdered milk (especially for first and second infancy babies)

Along with the above mentioned items you are warmly welcome to offer a CHILDREN’S BOOK! Pick a book in good condition, with beautiful images, in any language you wish (even without text) and give it to the children!

Additionally, on Sunday 22 May, from 11.00 until 14.00, children and young visitors of the Pireos street building may freely participate in the creative workshops “Mapping Desire: Experiencing place and routes” in the context of the International Day of Museums “Museums and Cultural Landscapes.” More info HERE
