A relaxing cinema going and a drip of wine in Kessariani district

There are some days when everything seems to go wrong. Time is ticking away on your alarm clock and you’re still in bed, cos’ you’ve heard nothing. You leave behind your mobile walking away from home. Your wallet is missing, a long while after you have left your office premises.
And when darkness falls, you are looking for a nice open air cinema to enjoy – at least – a long waited movie on the big screen. But … in vain!! Not an open air cinema at all ;

That day was by all means awful and the evening provided more of the same! Suddenly, out of the blue a kind of magic is coming in the air! You end up having spent one of the nicest and sweet nights in your life.

In the very end of such a miserable day, I came to have a grip that a film of my taste was projected on one-and-only municipal cinema, at Kessariani district.

I knew nothing of the cinema and its whereabouts. I followed directions of the locals. Fainthearted, I made my way to a grassy expanse next to Near East Club sports centre, on the right hand. Α cosy summer movie house lied latent into the green.

The place was a revelation to me! Ideal for parents with children, all in all, conveys a sense of coolness to the city. Young couples sauntering, bikes rolling up and down, a beautiful fountain, as well as a paved open space that appears to be recently remodelled. I promised to come back!

Shortly following the municipal open-air cinema Aeolia (Solomonidou & Philadelphia crossroads). It must have been a newcomer and literally an oasis coming up! Tables, chairs, popcorn, you know. Spectacular, a dream come true! It made my day …

Just behind the park – for those touched by History – stands Kessariani shooting ground, a place of awe and thrill. Τhe so-called ”Altar of Freedom”, a monument dedicated to the hundreds of Greek patriots that were executed by Germans in WWII is a place of historical memory

Strolling back the main road crossing Kessariani district, on the right hand towards downtown Athens, Ι came by the central square, named after the memory of National Resistance in 2nd WW. This is a place to be! Fish restaurants -well, great tastes for those burning a hole in the pocket- numerous taverns offered for beers and snacks at reasonable prices.

Have a nice time!
